Happy March, a new month brings excitement, and this month has a time change, the first day of spring, Open House, Teaching Night, St. Patrick’s Day, end of the third nine weeks, Jr High Solo & Ensemble, Drum Club, Flower Sales, Taco Dinner, and Parent Conferences just to mention a few of the milestone events. The old adage says “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”.
Our two school spelling bee winners, Ivy H. and Trudie A. participated in the district spelling bee competition. Both spellers did exceedingly well. Trudie A. will be one of 15 spellers to advance to the regional competition at Sinclair college on Monday, March 9. The champion of the Dayton area spelling bee will advance to the 2020 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. May 24-29. Trudie is the only speller to represent the Darke County/Greenville area.
Congratulations are in order to our Jr High students that participated in the Science Fair on Thursday. Thirteen students participated and six students received superior awards and qualified for the district competition at Edison (DJ, Mason, Tiana, Nash, Mya, and Haley). Mya won second place in Environmental Science, Haley, third place in Chemistry, Nash, third place in mechanical/physics. Mya also won a special environmental award for her oral presentation. DeColores alumni Ash, Leo, and Tony will also advance to the regional competition at Edison Community College. Their projects will be available for all DeColores staff and families to see at the Taco Dinner on Teaching Night. DeColores students competed agains 78 students in grades 5-12. There were only 12 participants that were not in high school. Congratulations again to our DeColores students and teachers!
